Hi, I'm LaTeshia Jackson! I am a mother of four, a certified doula who specializes in prenatal and postpartum care, and the owner of Matriarch Wellness. I understand that every pregnancy and postpartum period is sacred and unique to every mother, and I nurture and support mother, baby, and family according to their own preferences and needs. I honor the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual transitions of motherhood by providing evidence-based education, advocacy, movement, nutrition, lactation support, encouragement, and empowerment to help mothers and their families thrive. I believe that healthy mothers build healthy families, and healthy families strengthen communities, and walking alongside families through this work is truly my calling.
During my four pregnancies, births, and postpartum journeys, I have experienced two medicated vaginal hospital births with an epidural, one unmedicated water birth at a birth center, and one emergency cesarean section. I have experienced the highs and lows of pregnancy, from nausea, vomiting, and fatigue to the exciting first kicks of an unborn child. I have persevered through the baby blues and postpartum depression, and I navigated the rocky seas of learning newborn care, soothing techniques, and learning to trust my own innate motherly instincts with my first baby. I worked through the change in relationship dynamics with my partner, my work, and my community, and with each subsequent birth, I learned how to hold space for each child, my partner, and myself, so that every person felt seen, heard, and nurtured.
On a personal note, I learned organizational, time management, and meal prep skills that have proven invaluable in my everyday life as a mother, wife, doula, student, and business owner. In my role as a doula, my own life experiences help me provide nonjudgmental, nourishing, and thorough care to the mothers, babies, and families I support. Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are journeys that mothers and their village go on together, and my goal is to be an enriching member of every family's village, bringing nurturing care and practical guidance for their specific needs.
My philosophy is rooted in the belief that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum were never meant to be navigated alone. The whole mother must be honored and supported through her physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual transitions with compassionate and evidence-based doula care.
Overall, my goal is to educate mothers on the childbirth process, pain management, wellness techniques, lactation support, and newborn care, giving them the confidence and support they need throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum.
